About Optimize PDF
Optimize PDF re-saves a document in a tidier internal structure, packing its objects into compressed object streams and dropping leftovers from earlier edits. It doesn't touch the visible content, so text, images and quality stay exactly as they were.
When it helps
- Cleaning up a PDF that has been edited and re-saved many times by different apps
- Producing a fresh copy before archiving or uploading a document
- Trying a lossless size reduction before resorting to anything that lowers quality
Tips
- Results depend heavily on how the file was made. PDFs from older or careless software can shrink noticeably, while files already saved efficiently may barely change.
- Embedded images are not recompressed, so photo-heavy PDFs and scans won't get much smaller this way.
- Keep the original until you've checked the optimized copy opens correctly in the viewer you normally use.
