About JFIF to PNG
JFIF is really just JPEG: the name comes from the JPEG File Interchange Format, and some browsers and Windows setups save downloaded JPEG images with a .jfif extension. Apps that only look at the extension may reject these files. This tool decodes the JFIF and saves it as a PNG that any program will open.
When it helps
- Fixing an image saved from Chrome on Windows as .jfif that an upload form won't accept.
- Converting a JFIF into a lossless PNG before editing, cropping or adding text to it.
- Making a downloaded picture usable in slide decks or design tools that don't recognize the .jfif extension.
Tips
- If you just need a normal JPEG and don't care about lossless editing, renaming .jfif to .jpg also works, because the data inside is already JPEG.
- The PNG will be larger than the JFIF. It's a lossless copy of the already-compressed JPEG, so it can't add back detail.
- Regular .jpg and .jpeg files are accepted here too, so you can convert a mixed set of files the same way.
