About Image to TIFF

TIFF is a long-standing format in printing, publishing, scanning and archiving because it can store images losslessly with no compression artifacts. This tool converts PNG, JPG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF or SVG images into an uncompressed TIFF, with an optional alpha channel.

When it helps

  • Delivering images to a print shop or publisher that requires TIFF.
  • Archiving scans or artwork in a widely supported lossless format.
  • Supplying images to desktop publishing, GIS or scientific software that expects TIFF input.

Tips

  • Turn off "Keep transparency" for print workflows that expect plain RGB. Transparent areas are then filled with your chosen background color.
  • Files are uncompressed and large. That's expected for TIFF, but make sure the recipient can accept big uploads.
  • Most browsers can't display TIFF, so the file is offered as a download. Open it in a photo editor or your OS image viewer to check it.
  • Converting a JPG to TIFF won't remove existing JPEG artifacts. It only stops further loss.

Good to know

Quick answers about image to tiff in your browser.

TIFF is lossless, so it doesn't add compression artifacts the way JPG does. A TIFF made from a JPG still looks exactly like that JPG, though.

Most web browsers don't support displaying TIFF. Desktop image viewers, Photoshop, GIMP and macOS Preview all open it.
