About Pixelate Image

Turn an image into chunky square blocks, either for a retro 8-bit look or to make details unrecognizable. Each block takes the average color of the area it covers, and you set the block size in pixels.

When it helps

  • Hiding faces, license plates or personal details by pixelating a cropped image.
  • Making retro, game-style art from a photo or illustration.
  • Creating low-detail placeholders or teaser images.

Tips

  • Small blocks (2-8 px) give a stylized look. Large blocks (20 px and up) hide detail.
  • The whole image is pixelated. To hide only one area, crop that section, pixelate it, and recombine it in an editor.
  • Save as PNG to keep the block edges perfectly crisp. JPG can add soft artifacts around them.
