About JSON to CSV
This tool converts JSON records into comma-separated rows that Excel, Google Sheets and databases can import. It works best with an array of flat objects, where each object becomes a row and each key a column. An object of objects is also accepted: each entry becomes a row, and its key goes in a "key" column.
When it helps
- Opening an API response or a data export in a spreadsheet for review.
- Handing JSON data to a colleague or a reporting tool that only takes CSV.
- Bulk-importing records into a CRM, mailing list tool or database from JSON.
Tips
- Column headers are taken from the first object in the array. Make sure the first record has every field you need, or reorder the data so a complete record comes first.
- Nested objects are not flattened and show up as "[object Object]". Use JSON to Excel with flattening on if your data has nested fields.
- Arrays of plain values inside a record are joined with commas and wrapped in quotes, so they stay in a single cell.
- Values that contain commas, quotes or line breaks are quoted automatically, so spreadsheet apps read them correctly.
Good to know
Quick answers about json to csv in your browser.
The columns come from the keys of the first record. If later records have extra keys, those keys aren't added as columns. Add the missing keys to the first record, even with empty values, and convert again.
A top-level array of objects, such as [{"name":"Ada","age":36}, ...], gives the cleanest result. An array of plain values becomes index and value columns, and an object of objects becomes one row per entry.
