About Data to HTML

This tool renders a CSV, TSV or JSON file as a standalone HTML page with a bordered, readable table. The page has its own basic styling, so you can open it in any browser, email it or drop it into a website without extra CSS. Unlike the CSV exports, the table columns include every key found in any JSON record, not just the first.

When it helps

  • Sharing a small dataset with someone who doesn't have spreadsheet software.
  • Pasting a formatted table into a blog post, intranet page or documentation site.
  • Viewing a JSON export as a grid to spot missing or odd values quickly.
  • Attaching a printable version of a report table to an email.

Tips

  • Values are HTML-escaped, so any markup in your data is shown as text instead of being run.
  • For JSON, records missing a field get an empty cell in that column. Nested objects are not expanded and show up as "[object Object]".
  • CSV input needs a header row and the same number of fields on every row, otherwise the conversion stops with a parse error.
  • Very large files make a large HTML page that browsers render slowly. Filter or split the data first if it has many thousands of rows.
