About JSON to Excel
This tool builds a real .xlsx workbook from JSON, with one row per object and one column per key. Nested objects can be flattened into dotted columns such as address.city, which makes API responses readable in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets. If the JSON is an object that wraps an array, such as {"data": [...]}, the first array inside it is used.
When it helps
- Turning a REST API response into a spreadsheet for a non-technical colleague.
- Reviewing exported app data, such as orders, users or logs, with Excel filters and pivot tables.
- Converting JSON from a database or analytics export for a finance or operations team.
Tips
- Leave flattening on for nested data. Arrays of plain values are joined into one cell with commas, and arrays of objects are stored as JSON text.
- With flattening off, nested objects and arrays are written as JSON strings in a single cell, which keeps one column per top-level key.
- Sheet names are limited to 31 characters, and characters Excel forbids (\ / ? * [ ] :) are replaced with spaces.
- Columns are collected from all records, so objects with different keys still line up under the right headers.
