About Base64 Decode
Upload a text file containing Base64 and this tool decodes it back into the original bytes, which you can download as a file. It is the reverse of Base64 encoding and is useful whenever a system hands you binary content wrapped in text.
When it helps
- Recovering an attachment or image that was stored as a Base64 field in JSON or a database.
- Extracting the contents of a Kubernetes Secret value or CI variable that was Base64-encoded.
- Checking what is inside a Base64 blob from a log or API response.
Tips
- Spaces and line breaks are ignored, so wrapped Base64 such as the body of a PEM block decodes fine once the BEGIN and END lines are removed.
- This decoder expects the standard alphabet. URL-safe Base64 with - and _ (common in JWTs) will fail; replace - with + and _ with / first, or use the JWT Decoder for tokens.
- The output is saved as .bin because the tool cannot know the original type. Rename it with the correct extension, such as .png or .pdf, to open it.
- If the text begins with data:image/png;base64, use Data URI to File instead, which strips the prefix and picks the extension for you.

Quick answers about base64 decode in your browser.
Usually the input contains characters outside the Base64 alphabet, such as a data: prefix, quotes, or URL-safe - and _ characters. Remove those and try again.
Look at the first bytes with the Hex Dump tool. Many formats have recognizable signatures, for example PNG files start with 89 50 4E 47 and PDFs with %PDF.
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.
No. Files are read and processed locally in your browser, so they never leave your device.
