About URL Decode

This tool decodes percent-encoded text back into readable characters using decodeURIComponent. Sequences like %20, %2F and multi-byte UTF-8 codes such as %C3%A9 are turned back into spaces, slashes and accented letters.

When it helps

  • Reading a long tracking or redirect URL copied from a browser address bar or email link.
  • Decoding query parameters captured in server access logs.
  • Inspecting an OAuth callback or SAML redirect where the payload is URL-encoded.

Tips

  • A + sign is not converted to a space here, because that rule only applies to form-encoded query strings. To parse a full query string with + as space, use Query String to JSON.
  • A stray % that is not followed by two hex digits makes the decode fail. Fix or encode that character as %25 first.
  • If the output still contains %XX sequences, the text was encoded twice. Run it through the decoder again.

Good to know

Quick answers about url decode in your browser.

The input contains an invalid percent sequence, such as a lone % or bytes that do not form valid UTF-8. Text encoded in an old single-byte charset like Latin-1 can also cause this.

Yes, but decoding the entire URL also turns encoded separators like %26 into &, which can make the result ambiguous. For structured results, Query String to JSON splits the parameters first and then decodes each value.

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.

No. Files are read and processed locally in your browser, so they never leave your device.
