About JSON Validator

This validator checks whether JSON is syntactically valid and, when it is not, reports the exact line and column of the problem with an excerpt of the surrounding text. Valid input gets a short summary: the top-level type, the total number of values, the maximum nesting depth and the size.

When it helps

  • Finding the missing comma or bracket that makes an API reject your request body.
  • Checking a hand-edited config file before deploying it.
  • Confirming that a large export or log line is complete JSON and not truncated.

Tips

  • The most common failures are trailing commas, single-quoted strings, unquoted keys and comments. All of these are allowed in JavaScript objects but not in JSON.
  • A leading byte order mark is ignored, so files saved by some Windows editors still validate.
  • This checks syntax only. It does not validate against a JSON Schema or check that required fields exist.
  • An error at the very end of the file usually means an unclosed object, array or string earlier on.

Good to know

Quick answers about json validator in your browser.

JavaScript object literals allow single quotes, unquoted keys, trailing commas and comments. Strict JSON allows none of these, and values like undefined, NaN and Infinity are also not permitted.

Yes. Under the current JSON standard any value can be the top-level element, including a string, number, true, false or null. The validator reports which type it found.

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.

No. Files are read and processed locally in your browser, so they never leave your device.
