About Password Generator

This generator builds random passwords with the browser's crypto.getRandomValues, using rejection sampling so every character is equally likely. You choose the length from 8 to 128, how many to create, and which character sets to include, and each result is shown with an estimate of its entropy in bits.

When it helps

  • Creating a unique password for a new account to store in your password manager.
  • Generating database, Wi-Fi or service account credentials.
  • Producing a batch of initial passwords or API secrets for test environments.

Tips

  • Length adds more strength than symbols do. Each extra character multiplies the number of possibilities, so a 20-character password from letters and digits is far stronger than a 10-character one with symbols.
  • Every enabled character set is guaranteed to appear at least once, which satisfies most password rules.
  • "Avoid look-alikes" removes characters like l, 1, O and 0 and some punctuation. Use it for passwords people must read or type, and accept a slightly smaller character pool.
  • Turn off symbols if a site rejects certain punctuation, and make up for it with a longer length.
