About Remove Background Color

Make a solid or near-solid background transparent by removing one color, either detected automatically from the image's edges or picked by you. Tolerance controls how similar a color must be to count as background, and edge softness feathers the outline. It works on color, not AI subject detection, so it's best with flat backgrounds.

When it helps

  • Cutting a logo out of a white background so it sits cleanly on colored pages.
  • Turning a scanned or photographed signature into a transparent PNG for documents.
  • Removing a green screen or plain studio backdrop from product shots.

Tips

  • Keep "Only remove color connected to the edges" on so matching colors inside your subject, like white text in a logo, aren't removed.
  • Raise tolerance gradually if a halo or shadow of the background remains. Too high starts eating into the subject.
  • Add a little edge softness to avoid jagged outlines, especially on photos.
  • Busy or gradient backgrounds won't come out cleanly with a single-color key.
