About ICO to PNG
An .ico file is a container that can hold several versions of the same icon at different sizes. This tool pulls the largest image out of an ICO and saves it as a regular PNG, with its transparency intact, so you can view, edit or reuse a favicon or Windows icon in any app.
When it helps
- Recovering your site's logo from an old favicon.ico when the original artwork is lost.
- Getting an editable PNG from a Windows application icon for documentation or a presentation.
- Previewing what's inside an ICO file without special icon software.
Tips
- Favicons are often only 16, 32 or 48 pixels wide, so the PNG will be small. Enlarging it afterwards will look soft or blocky.
- Keep the background set to transparent so the icon's cut-out shape survives.
- If the icon looks pixelated, try Upscale Image with the pixel-perfect method for a crisp enlarged version.
