About Compress SVG
SVG files exported from Illustrator, Figma, Inkscape and similar tools often carry editor metadata, comments, XML declarations and lots of indentation. This tool strips that extra markup and collapses whitespace to produce a smaller SVG, without touching the paths or shapes that make up your artwork.
When it helps
- Cleaning up icons before inlining them into HTML or a React component.
- Reducing the size of SVG logos and illustrations served on a website.
- Removing editor metadata and comments from SVGs before publishing them.
Tips
- The minify pass also removes <title> and <desc> elements. If those provide accessible names for screen readers, add an aria-label or keep a copy of the original.
- Savings are biggest on files exported straight from design tools. Hand-written or already minified SVGs may shrink only a little.
- Path data isn't simplified or rounded, so complex illustrations stay visually identical but keep their full geometry.
Good to know
Quick answers about compress svg in your browser.
No. Only comments, metadata, declarations and whitespace are removed. The shapes, colors and coordinates are left as they are.
Most of its size is probably path data or embedded raster images, which this tool doesn't alter. Simplifying paths in a vector editor is the next step.
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.
No. Files are read and processed locally in your browser, so they never leave your device.
