About Add page numbers
This tool stamps a page number in the footer of each page, positioned left, center or right. The numbers are added as real text, so they print sharply and the rest of the page is left alone. It's a quick fix for documents that were assembled from several sources.
When it helps
- Numbering a merged application packet so reviewers can refer to page numbers
- Adding page references to a printed handout or exam paper
- Making legal or court bundles easier to navigate
Tips
- The number shows the page's actual position in the file. Numbering only pages 3-10 prints 3 to 10, not 1 to 8.
- Numbers are small (10 pt) and placed close to the bottom edge. If your document already has a footer there, they may overlap. Check one page first.
- For a 'Page 1 of 12' format, a custom starting number or header text, use PDF Header & Footer instead.
