About Compress PDF
Compress PDF tries to shrink a file by rewriting its structure with compressed object streams. It's lossless, so nothing visible changes. That also means the savings depend on the file: some PDFs drop a lot, others hardly at all.
When it helps
- Getting a PDF under an email attachment limit when it was exported inefficiently
- Making a document a little lighter before uploading it to a form with a size cap

Tips
- Large PDFs are usually large because of images, especially scans and phone photos. This tool doesn't downsample or recompress images, so expect modest results on those.
- For a scanned PDF that must get much smaller, Grayscale PDF with JPEG at a lower DPI (around 100 to 150) re-renders every page and can cut size substantially. It also removes selectable text.
- Splitting off pages you don't need, with Extract pages or Remove pages, is often the most effective way to reduce size.
