About Edit PDF Metadata
Edit PDF Metadata changes the document properties stored inside a PDF: title, author, subject, keywords, creator app and producer. These are the fields shown in a viewer's Document Properties window. The title can also appear in search results and browser tabs. Page content is untouched.
When it helps
- Giving a PDF a proper title so browser tabs and search results don't show 'Microsoft Word - final_v3.docx'
- Setting the correct author before publishing a paper or report
- Adding keywords to help a document management system or search engine index the file
Tips
- Blank fields keep their current values, so you can change just the title. Use PDF Info first to see what's already set.
- Turn on 'Remove all existing metadata first' to wipe old values, including XMP data, before writing only the fields you fill in.
- The title is set to show in the viewer's window title bar instead of the file name, which looks more professional when the PDF is opened.
