About Strip HTML Tags

Remove all HTML markup and keep only the readable text. Scripts, styles, comments, SVG and the document head are deleted together with their content, not just their tags, so no stray code ends up in your text. Entities such as & and   can be decoded into normal characters at the same time.

When it helps

  • Getting plain text from an HTML email or newsletter.
  • Cleaning text copied from a CMS or rich-text editor that came with markup.
  • Preparing web content for a word count, translation or text analysis.
  • Pulling the text out of an HTML export or saved web page.

Tips

  • With 'Keep paragraphs & line breaks' on, block elements like <p>, <div>, <li> and headings start new lines and table cells are separated by tabs. Turn it off to get one continuous line.
  • Image alt text and link URLs are removed with the tags. Use HTML to Markdown if you want to keep links.
  • Leave 'Decode entities' on unless the output will go back into HTML, where characters like < must stay encoded.

Good to know

Quick answers about strip html tags in your browser.

For plain text output, yes: the result contains no tags. But if you decode entities and then insert the text into a web page, encoded characters such as &lt;script&gt; become real markup. Encode the text again before putting it back into HTML.

Paste the cells containing HTML here with 'Keep paragraphs & line breaks' off, so each cell's content stays on one line, then paste the result back into the column.

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.

No. Files are read and processed locally in your browser, so they never leave your device.
