About HTML to Markdown
Convert HTML into readable Markdown, keeping headings, paragraphs, links, images, bold and italic text, lists, blockquotes and code blocks. Scripts, styles, iframes and the document head are removed. It works for whole saved pages as well as snippets copied from a page source or rich-text editor.
When it helps
- Moving blog posts from WordPress or another CMS to a Markdown-based static site.
- Saving web articles as Markdown notes in Obsidian, Logseq or a Git repository.
- Turning HTML documentation into a README.
- Cleaning up HTML from email templates into editable text.
Tips
- Pick heading, bullet and code-block styles that match your existing files. ATX headings (#) and fenced code blocks are the most widely supported.
- Setext (underlined) headings only exist for levels 1 and 2, so deeper headings still use # marks.
- Tables are not turned into Markdown table syntax. Rebuild important tables by hand or keep them as HTML.
- Layout elements like navigation menus and footers are converted too. Copy only the main article HTML for cleaner results.
