About Shuffle Lines
Put the lines of a list into a random order. The shuffle uses the Fisher-Yates algorithm with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every possible order is equally likely. Each line appears exactly once in the result.
When it helps
- Randomizing the order of quiz or exam questions so neighbours get different versions.
- Deciding presentation order, team line-ups or seating plans fairly.
- Shuffling a playlist, reading list or set of flashcards.
- Randomizing survey options or test items to reduce order bias.
Tips
- Every run gives a different order. Save the output if you need to show how the order was decided.
- Put each item on its own line. A paragraph that wraps across several lines will be split up.
- To pick a few winners instead of reordering everything, use the random line picker.
