About Remove Line Breaks
Join lines that were broken in the middle of sentences back into flowing text. This is the usual problem with text copied from PDFs, old emails and terminal output, where every line ends with a hard break. With 'Keep paragraph breaks' on, blank lines between paragraphs are kept, so only the breaks inside each paragraph are removed.
When it helps
- Pasting a PDF passage into a document or email without broken lines.
- Unwrapping plain-text emails that were hard-wrapped at around 72 characters.
- Turning a vertical list into a single comma-separated line.
- Preparing text for translation or text-to-speech tools that treat each line break as a pause.
Tips
- Paragraphs are detected by blank lines. If your source has no blank lines between paragraphs, everything will be joined into one block.
- Words hyphenated across a line break are not rejoined, so 'exam-' and 'ple' become 'exam- ple'. Fix these with find and replace afterwards.
- Leading and trailing spaces on each line are trimmed before joining, so you will not get double spaces.
- Choose 'Comma + space' to turn a list into one line, or 'Nothing' for text such as long URLs or base64 that was split across lines.
