About Lorem Ipsum Generator

Generate lorem ipsum placeholder text for mockups, wireframes and templates. Choose how many paragraphs and how many sentences per paragraph, start with the traditional 'Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet' if you like, and wrap each paragraph in <p> tags for HTML. The text is scrambled Latin taken from Cicero's 'De finibus bonorum et malorum' of 45 BC, so it looks like real prose without distracting readers with meaning.

When it helps

  • Filling page designs and wireframes so layouts can be judged before the real copy exists.
  • Testing how fonts, line heights and column widths look with paragraph-length text.
  • Seeding a development database or CMS with sample posts.
  • Checking how a template handles short and long paragraphs.

Tips

  • The output is based on what you type in the input box: the same input always gives the same text, and changing it gives a new variation. Leave it empty for a default version.
  • Turn on 'Wrap paragraphs in <p> tags' to paste straight into HTML templates or a CMS code view.
  • Sentences vary in length, so vary the sentence count too when testing layouts, to see how short and long blocks look.
  • Replace placeholder text before launch. Search engines and visitors may treat pages left with lorem ipsum as unfinished or low quality.

Good to know

Quick answers about lorem ipsum generator in your browser.

Nothing, as written. It comes from a passage of Cicero about pain and pleasure, with words cut short, changed and scrambled. 'Lorem' is a fragment of 'dolorem', meaning pain. It has been used as filler text by printers and designers for decades.

Readable placeholder text draws attention to what it says, so reviewers comment on the words instead of the layout. Lorem ipsum has a natural-looking mix of word lengths but no meaning, which keeps attention on the design.

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.

No. Files are read and processed locally in your browser, so they never leave your device.
