About Slug Generator
Turn page titles, product names or headings into URL slugs, the readable part of a web address such as /blog/how-to-brew-coffee. Each non-empty line becomes its own slug: accents are removed, '&' becomes 'and', apostrophes are dropped, and every run of spaces or punctuation becomes a single separator.
When it helps
- Creating URLs for blog posts and product pages in a CMS that does not generate them well.
- Making a batch of slugs for a site migration or a redirect map from a list of titles.
- Producing safe file names or anchor IDs from headings.
- Generating keys or identifiers from human-readable labels.
Tips
- Hyphens are the usual choice for URLs. Google's guidance recommends hyphens over underscores to separate words.
- Keep 'Lowercase' on for URLs, because many servers treat /About and /about as different pages.
- Letters from other alphabets are kept, so a Russian or Japanese title stays in its own script. Transliterate it first if you need ASCII-only URLs.
- Slugs are not shortened. Delete filler words yourself if a title makes a very long URL.
