About Change Video Volume

Change Video Volume makes a video's sound louder or quieter, from 0 to 500 percent of the original level. When the source is already H.264, the picture is copied untouched and only the audio is re-encoded, so it is fast and the video quality does not change.

When it helps

  • Boosting a phone video where the speaker was far from the microphone.
  • Turning down a clip that is much louder than the others in a playlist or presentation.
  • Lowering background music in a screen recording before sharing it.
  • Making quiet security or dashcam audio easier to hear.

Tips

  • 100 percent keeps the original level. Try 150 to 200 percent for quiet speech and listen before going higher.
  • Large boosts amplify background hiss too, and audio that was already near full level will distort or clip. If it crackles, lower the setting.
  • Videos that are not H.264, such as VP9 WebM, are re-encoded to H.264 as well, which takes longer.
  • The video must have an audio track. Setting 0 percent produces silence; use Mute Video if you want the audio track removed instead.
