About Video to MOV

This tool converts MP4, WebM, MKV, AVI or M4V video into a QuickTime MOV file with H.264 video and AAC audio. MOV is the native format of Apple's ecosystem and opens directly in QuickTime Player, iMovie, Final Cut Pro and Photos.

When it helps

  • Getting a WebM or MKV file into iMovie or Final Cut Pro, which do not import those containers.
  • Preparing a clip for a Mac-based workflow or a client who specifically asks for MOV.
  • Making a video open in QuickTime Player on a Mac without installing another player.

Tips

  • The video is re-encoded to H.264 at a fixed quality level and the audio to AAC, so the result plays on any Mac or iPhone.
  • MOV and MP4 are closely related containers. If the destination accepts MP4, an MP4 is just as good and more widely supported outside Apple devices.
  • This is not a ProRes export. If an editor or broadcaster requires ProRes MOV, you will need desktop software for that.

Good to know

Quick answers about video to mov in your browser.

No. Changing the container cannot add detail, and the video is re-encoded. The point is compatibility with Apple software, not quality.

iMovie does not import WebM, MKV or some AVI files. Converting them to H.264 MOV gives iMovie a format it supports.

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.

No. Files are read and processed locally in your browser, so they never leave your device.
