About Blur Video

Blur Video softens the entire frame with an adjustable strength from 1 to 20 and saves the result as an MP4 with the original audio. Light settings give a dreamy, out-of-focus look, while high settings make a video unreadable, which is handy for backgrounds.

When it helps

  • Making a soft, out-of-focus background loop to place text or a speaker over.
  • Obscuring a screen recording that shows private information before sharing it as a demo of the layout.
  • Creating a blurred version of a clip for a vertical video's background fill behind the main footage.

Tips

  • Values around 2 to 5 give a gentle softening; 15 to 20 makes faces and text unrecognisable.
  • The blur covers the whole frame. This tool cannot blur only a face, licence plate or region.
  • Heavily blurred video compresses very well, so the output is often noticeably smaller than the source.
