About Pitch Shifter
Shift a song or voice up or down by up to 12 semitones, one full octave, while keeping the original tempo and length. It works by changing the playback rate and then time-stretching back to the original speed.
When it helps
- Transposing a backing track into a key that suits your vocal range
- Matching a recording to a guitar or piano tuned differently
- Disguising a voice by lowering or raising it a few semitones
- Creating a chipmunk or deep-voice effect for a video
Tips
- Each semitone is one piano key or guitar fret. +2 moves a song in C up to D; -12 drops it a full octave.
- Small shifts of 1 to 3 semitones sound most natural. Large shifts on vocals give obvious chipmunk or monster tones.
- A shift of 0 does nothing, so the tool asks you to pick a non-zero value.
