About Fade Audio

A hard start or an abrupt ending makes a clip sound unfinished. This tool adds a gradual fade-in at the beginning and a fade-out at the end, with each duration set in seconds, and exports the result as an MP3.

When it helps

  • Smoothing the edges of a song excerpt you cut for a video or slideshow
  • Softening the start of a podcast intro or background music bed
  • Removing the click at the start or end of a trimmed recording

Tips

  • Short fades of 0.5 to 2 seconds suit speech and clips; music endings often sound natural with 3 to 6 seconds.
  • Set either value to 0 to skip that fade, for example a fade-out only on a song that already starts cleanly.
  • If you are also trimming, trim first and fade second so the fade lands on the new edges.
