About Reverse GIF
Reverse an animated GIF so it plays backwards. Every frame is decoded, the order is flipped and the GIF is re-encoded with an optimised palette and an infinite loop. Reversed clips are a staple of reaction GIFs, and combining a forward and reversed copy is the classic way to make a seamless back-and-forth loop.
When it helps
- Making a funny reverse version of a reaction GIF, such as someone un-jumping into a pool.
- Creating the second half of a boomerang-style loop to join with the original.
- Checking an animation sequence frame order by watching it backwards.
Tips
- Reversing holds every decoded frame in memory at once, so long or large GIFs can hit the browser's limit. The tool tells you the approximate maximum length; resize or shorten the GIF if you see that message.
- The output gets a freshly generated palette, so colours may shift very slightly compared with the original.
- Timing is preserved, so a GIF with an uneven rhythm plays back with the same rhythm in reverse.
Good to know
Quick answers about reverse gif in your browser.
Reverse the GIF here, then combine the original and the reversed copy in an editor that joins clips. This tool only produces the reversed version.
Reversing needs all frames uncompressed in memory. Large dimensions multiplied by many frames can exceed what the browser allows. Use Resize GIF to make it narrower, or trim it, and try again.
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process.
No. Files are read and processed locally in your browser, so they never leave your device.
