About Crop GIF
Crop an animated GIF by trimming a set number of pixels from the top, bottom, left and right edges. Every frame is cropped the same way and the animation is re-encoded with a new palette built from the remaining area. Use it to remove borders, black bars or parts of a screen recording you do not want to show.
When it helps
- Cutting the browser toolbar or taskbar out of a screen-recording GIF.
- Removing letterbox bars or a watermark strip along one edge.
- Focusing a reaction GIF on a face by trimming away the background.
Tips
- The values are pixels removed from each edge of the original frame, not the final size. To keep a centred 300 px wide area of a 500 px GIF, crop 100 from the left and 100 from the right.
- Check the GIF's dimensions before cropping so the left plus right and top plus bottom values do not exceed the frame size.
- Cropping also makes the file smaller, since there are fewer pixels per frame, and the new palette is tuned to the area you kept.
