About GIF to Frames
Split an animated GIF into its individual frames and download them as numbered PNG files in a ZIP. Each frame is written as a full image rather than the partial patches some GIFs store internally, so you get exactly what is shown at that point in the animation.
When it helps
- Grabbing a single still from a GIF to use as a thumbnail or reaction image.
- Editing individual frames in an image editor before rebuilding the animation.
- Creating a sprite sheet or reference frames for animation or game work.
- Inspecting an animation frame by frame to check timing or find a glitch.
Tips
- The maximum frames field (default 500, up to 2000) stops extraction after that many frames. Raise it for very long GIFs, or lower it if you only need the beginning.
- Frames are named frame-00001.png, frame-00002.png and so on, so they sort in playback order in any file manager.
- Frame delays are not stored in the PNGs. Note the original timing if you plan to reassemble the frames later.
- To rebuild an animation from the edited frames, use Image to GIF with all the PNGs selected.
